So what is hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is basically a form of therapy where a practitioner will aim to guide the client into a heightened state of awareness or ‘trance-like state’. When people hear the words ‘trance- like’ state the first question that usually comes to mind is ‘can a hypnotherapist control my mind and get me to do things I wouldn’t normally do?’

This misconception has been brought about by stage hypnotists who hypnotise members of an audience and then get the people who they have managed to hypnotise, onto the stage where they usually act and behave in ways the hypnotist tells them to.

The first thing to understand is that these people are WILLING PARTICIPANTS. First of all they have agreed to participate in group hypnosis, so they are fully aware that if they do get hypnotised, they are likely to land up on stage, and if they land up on stage, there is a good chance they may end up kissing the stranger next to them or staggering about like a drunk person!  These people are extroverts and usually enjoy being the centre of attention in normal day to day life.

The same can be said for any form of ethical hypnotherapy. You will always be a ‘WILLING PARTICIPANT ‘.

If for example your husband wants you to give up smoking. You don’t, but he has bought you a give up smoking hypnotherapy session.

You go along, even though you don’t really want to give up just yet….

You know it will benefit your health… but…you have Christmas coming up …..

You really didn’t want to have to go through Christmas what with all the family politics etc without your cigarettes….

They help you get through times of stress….it’s difficult to give up when there is lots of social situations and alcohol….and so on …and so on

So… are you a willing participant? No.

In order for us to help you, you need to be a conscious and active participant in all hypnotherapy programmes. If YOU want to give up smoking, we can certainly help you do that. But we cannot force you to do anything you do not want to do and it would be unethical of us to do so. You can be assured that you are in safe and professional hands when you undergo any hypnotherapy with DO Hypnosis Kent.

I am happy to say that I am now working face to face with clients again. I have put in place strict Covid-19 safety measures in line with Government guidance to keep my clients safe .
I would ask that clients continue to choose online sessions over face to face sessions but I do appreciate that this does not suit all clients.

Any client wishing to work face to face will be asked to fill out a Covid-19 risk assessment and to sign a Covid-19 liability waiver.
